over 100,000 tourists arrived in Sri Lanka during the first 15 days of 2024.

According to the latest data from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), over 100,000 tourists arrived in Sri Lanka during the first 15 days of 2024. The weekly report on tourist arrivals, released on Tuesday (16), indicates a 114 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023, with 101,362 international visitors recorded. In January 2023, only 102,545 international tourists visited Sri Lanka, as per SLTDA records.

The SLTDA reported an average weekly tourist arrival of about 46,000 and a daily average of 6,700 international tourists. Chairman Priantha Fernando noted a substantial increase in revenue, attributing it mainly to the reintroduction of the Minimum Room Rate (MRR) for Colombo city hotels.

In 2023, Sri Lanka saw a total of 1,487,303 tourists, marking a 106.6 percent increase from 2022. The data from SLTDA in 2022 indicated that Sri Lanka received 719,978 tourists for the entire year.
