Sustainability at Look Lanka
Travel gently. Give back generously.
At Look Lanka, we believe great holidays should leave a positive trace, on you, not on the planet. As a locally owned company, we prioritise people, wildlife, and landscapes across Sri Lanka. This page outlines how we operate responsibly today and the goals we’re working toward next.

Climate & Carbon
- ➤ Reduce first: Smart routing to cut unnecessary driving time; encourage scenic train segments where practical; minimise vehicle idling.
- ➤ Measure & improve: We’re building a per-traveller/per-day carbon baseline for our most popular routes and will publish annual progress updates.
- ➤ Offset (optional): Guests can request high-quality, verified carbon offsets or a native-tree planting contribution with local partners. We’ll share a certificate upon request.

Waste & Plastics
- ➤ Refill over landfill: Refill stops planned on routes; stainless‑steel/reusable bottles available on request.
- ➤ Plastic-light vehicles: No single‑use plastic cups, straws, or cutlery in vehicles; onboard mini waste caddies for sorting & responsible disposal.
- ➤ Paperless ops: E‑vouchers, WhatsApp/Email docs, digital waivers & tickets wherever accepted.

Nature & Wildlife Welfare
- ➤ Zero tolerance for cruelty: No elephant riding, bathing, or performances. We don’t visit attractions that exploit wildlife.
- ➤ Park etiquette: We follow official speed limits, keep appropriate distances, avoid crowding animals, and never off‑road in protected areas.
- ➤ Licensed experts: Safaris are led by licensed drivers/guides; we prioritise operators who follow national park guidelines.

Fair Work & Local Prosperity
- ➤ Local first: We prioritise locally owned hotels, eateries, guides, and activity providers.
- ➤ Fair pay & safe hours: Transparent day rates for drivers/guides, reasonable daily driving limits, and per‑diems on overnights.
- ➤ Community experiences done right: Village visits, craft workshops, and food experiences are hosted by and paid directly to local families/co‑ops.

Culture & Respect
- ➤ Child-safe tourism: We never include or promote orphanage tourism or activities that compromise child welfare.
- ➤ Respect sacred spaces: Dress guidelines, photography etiquette, and cultural briefings are shared before temple visits.
- ➤ Inclusive travel: We welcome travellers of all backgrounds and work to accommodate different mobility, dietary, and faith needs.

Traveler Code: Simple Ways to Travel Light
Do
- Bring a reusable bottle; choose reef‑safe sunscreen; dress modestly for shrines; ask before photographing people.
- Stick to trails, keep voices low around wildlife, and pack out small litter.
Don’t
- Feed wild animals, buy coral/shells/rare woods, fly drones around temples/parks without permits, or pick plants.
Wildlife Viewing Guidelines (Quick Read)
- View quietly from a distance; never request a driver to get closer than guidelines allow.
- One vehicle, one sighting: avoid boxing animals in; let others rotate.
- Dawn/dusk drives only within official park hours.
- No flash photography around animals; follow your guide’s cues at all times.
Supplier Code of Conduct (Summary)
- All partners we work with must:
- Comply with national labour laws; no child or forced labour; provide a safe workplace and equal opportunity.
