DAY 1

Airport / Colombo → Kandy

Kandy is a lovely starting point for hill country travel, especially after a long flight. As you leave the coast and begin to climb into greener landscapes, the air becomes cooler and the pace feels calmer. Kandy is known for its peaceful lake, hillside views and cultural atmosphere, and it’s a comfortable first overnight stop before heading deeper into tea country. The evening is kept light so you can settle in, relax, and enjoy the change of scenery.

Drive to Kandy and check in

Evening at leisure: Kandy Lake walk or viewpoint stop (time permitting)

Kandy → Tea Country → Nuwara Eliya

Today you travel into Sri Lanka’s famous tea hills, where the landscape opens into rolling plantations, misty ridgelines and charming roadside views. The journey itself is part of the experience, with natural stops that feel unhurried and scenic. Nuwara Eliya is cooler, quieter and beautifully different from the coast, with colonial-era architecture, gardens and a relaxed pace that UK and EU travellers often enjoy. By evening, you’ll be surrounded by fresh air and tea estate atmosphere.

This is your true hill-country day—slow, refreshing and full of natural beauty. Nuwara Eliya is perfect for travellers who enjoy gentle walking, gardens, lakeside scenery and fresh air without heavy hiking. The day can be kept as relaxed or as active as you prefer, with options for short nature walks and beautiful viewpoints. It’s also a wonderful day for photography, quiet cafés, and simply enjoying a cooler, calmer side of Sri Lanka.

Explore Nuwara Eliya and surrounding tea landscapes

Visit Gregory Lake area (relaxed lakeside time)

Short town drive for colonial-era atmosphere and gardens (time permitting)

Optional easy nature walk through tea estate paths (weather permitting)

Don’t Miss: A slow lakeside moment at Gregory Lake with the hill breeze and views.
Optional Add-on: Horton Plains and World’s End (early morning, weather-dependent)

Your final day offers one last signature hill-country experience before returning to the coast. If train seats are available, you can enjoy a scenic rail journey through tea plantations and valleys-one of Sri Lanka’s most loved experiences for UK and EU travellers. If the train is not available, the road journey still offers beautiful mountain scenery as you descend toward Colombo. We plan the timing around your flight so the day stays comfortable and stress-free.
